April 2008

After a week of not meeting up, Reid and I finally got to spend some quality time together yesterday. I wished yesterday was 10 hours longer… Cos the day went by toooo fast…

We had lunch, and then killed 3 over hours before watching Definitely, Maybe at 6.45pm. The movie was… Quite all right. Rather interesting way of potrayal… But it was a little draggy.

We had dinner after that (laksa – which tau poks I vomited all out when I came home) and then off to home we went…

We visited Pet Safari at Vivo and decided we would get a beagle in the future. :)

While killing the three hours, we went to this electronics exhibition and were just looking at a HDTV set when a salesman started talking to us about the tv, telling us about it, and how it was the last day on offer (or something like that), etc… And this wasn’t the first time a salesperson was doing that.
I didn’t really think much about it but then during dinner, Reid asked, “Do we look like a young, married couple?”
And I thought yeah… Maybe that’s why those people keep trying to sell TV sets to us… Who would waste their time/breath trying to sell a young, non-married couple a… TV SET?! Hahaha… It was pretty amusing…

Well, I gotta run for my dental appointment soon… I kinda like blogging here… It just feels like there’s more freedom to say what I want because no one reads this anymore. They will only remember that this blog was meant for my Beijing trip… Well, at least I HOPE people won’t think of coming in here… Maybe when the time is ripe I might move over. :)

Goodbye!

I can’t wait for Wednesday and Thursday to come… Wednesday is late night movie day and Thurs would be… Picnic day!

This was the room we stayed in while in Beijing. Been looking through the photos I posted on Multiply and I think I kinda miss Beijing… :(

I miss the fun we had. I miss the independence we had. I miss the fact that I learnt so much there. Didn’t think I’d ever say this but I miss crossing the roads there. Hahah. Like Liyan said, and I quote: “The pedestrian, cyclists and cars exist together on the roads.” HOW TRUE. When we were first there, we were screaming for our lives (literally) while trying to get to the other side of the road amidst all the blaring of horns from the millions of cars.

We wove through cars, vans, cyclists, other pedestrian… Omg, the experience is something you can never get in Singapore. Not unless you try and cross the Expressway.
There are not even half as many cyclists here in Singapore as compared to Beijing. You HARDLY see any here. There, they’re everywhere.

But soon enough, we became pros. Crossing the road became almost second nature to us. No longer were we that afraid of the angry (most likely) drivers behind those fast moving merciless vehicles, or the cyclists who NEVER stop. We would just yell, “Come on, let’s go!” hold on to one another, and dash across the road.

And I miss walking the streets at night, walking as if we knew the country damn well and were not afraid of running into mean, cunning Chinese men. Haha. But of course, we were careful and took our own precaution as well.

Oh, I miss having channel V play the same songs over and over and over and OVER again. Every night when we return to our hotel rooms, we would turn the tv on to ch V and we can almost predict what songs are gonna come on. Like Mariah Carey’s Touch My Body. By the way, it’s quite a disgusting song. And video. Oh gosh. How can I  miss something like that?! Beats me.

And then, I miss waking up in the morning (Amber first, then me and then Liyan), getting ready for a new day, piling on the moisturisers, eating breakfast, then setting off to our daily activities. I must tell you why I miss waking up in the morning in Beijing.
You see, each time I open my eyes, I’m glad I went through a well rested night (as in no nightmares or insomnia, etc). I’m glad that I’m still in the company of two cool roomies. I’m glad the sun’s shining into our room… Most of all, I guess I’m glad that I’m feeling warm and comfy under the thick blanket. And, I’m glad I’m still having a good time in BJ.
And I shall let you on in a secret! Each night before I sleep, I would listen to Reid’s recording he made on my phone (content shall remain private) before I left and hug his pillowcase he passed me the night I flew, to sleep. It really does give me a safe and warm feeling… :)
Cheeky monkey remained in the luggage though, cos I kept forgetting to take him out… Hahah.

I miss having to wear more than just a T-shirt…
And oh, HOW can I forget? I miss the shopping there. The haggling, the ill-tempered shop owners, the exorbitant/cheap prices, the thousand and one little shops in a single building, bluffing several shop owners that we were from Korea (hahaha, and they believed us!), the truckload of FAKE branded goods, etc…!

AND IT’S CHEAP FOOD!

AND IT’S CHEAP TRANSPORTATION!

The list can just go on and on…

The bottom line is, I think I kinda miss Beijing…

And thanks to Ho Liyan, cos without her, Amber and I wouldn’t have been as fortunate and privileged to be on the receiving end of her aunty’s kind hospitality… Like getting her chauffeur to drive us, treating us to meals at her Thai restaurant (which is really superb!), bringing us to nice places (her costume rental shop, etc)… So thank you Liyan! :D

I’ve been to China on various occassions when I was younger, but this is the first time I’m saying this…

I KINDA MISS YOU CHINA.

PEOPLE,

I AM SO EXCITED!

AHHH!

I hope I’ll be able to sleep on the plane tonight. Otherwise I’ll be like a walking zombie when we alight the plane and go for our sightseeing.

I am going to be in Beijing tomorrow morning! Five more hours and off to the airport I go!
